Roy Dukes, Interim Director of Schools, was appointed on October 5 by the Marshall County Board of Education. Mr. Dukes attended Morris College in South Carolina on an athletic/academic scholarship. He earned his masters in education from Middle Tennessee State University. He served as the assistant principal and principal of Marshall County High School before moving to the Central Office to be the district’s Accountability Coordinator. In 2001, he was selected as the Assistant Director of Schools. He has also taught science and coached football and basketball. Mr. Dukes was a TSSAA official for 17 years earning a place in the TSSAA 2005 Hall of Fame. Mr. Dukes is a Marshall County native and graduate of Jones High School. He is married to Louise Dukes, who retired from teaching science at Marshall County High School. He has two sons, Cedric and Landon, and two grandchildren. Mr. Dukes anticipates the arrival of his birthday every year because his grandchildren will call him promptly at 12:01 am to joyfully sing Happy Birthday. In his new role as Director of Schools, Mr. Dukes encourages the teachers, staff, school board, and community to focus on Marshall County’s most important resource: the children.
